About Delta State

Delta State is one of the 36 states of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, located in the South-South geopolitical zone. Created on 27 August 1991 from the former Bendel State, Delta State has its capital in Asaba and is named after the Niger Delta region.

The state is home to several ethnic groups, including the Urhobo, Isoko, Itsekiri, Ijaw, Ika, and Ndokwa peoples. The Isoko and Urhobo peoples are among the largest ethnic groups, with rich cultural traditions, languages, and histories that span centuries.

Delta State comprises 25 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and three senatorial districts: Delta North, Delta Central (predominantly Urhobo), and Delta South (which includes Isoko, Urhobo, Itsekiri, and Ijaw communities).

The state is rich in natural resources, particularly crude oil and natural gas, and has a diverse economy that includes agriculture, commerce, and industry. Major towns include Warri, Asaba, Sapele, Agbor, Ughelli, and Oleh.
